Quelles sont les différences et les similitudes des deux fonctions auliques de Hugu-korey-koï et le Ouandou ? Bien qu’on les retrouve plusieurs fois mentionnés dans la production historiographique sur l’Empire songhoy, les rôles et les pouvoirs de ces deux personnages de l’entourage du prince restent sous-étudiés. Dans cet article, nous proposons donc d’analyser, à partir de la tradition orale puis des Tarikhs de Tombouctou, les caractères fonctionnels de ces deux dignités de la cour royale songhoy, vus sous l’angle de leurs spécificités et de leurs conformités respectives. On relève notamment les fonctions et les compétences qui en font des métiers bien distincts ; puis les attributions qu’ils ont en commun et qui pourraient laisser croire qu’il s’agit de professions identiques.

What are the differences and similarities between the two aulic functions of Hugu-korey-koy and the Wandu? Although they are mentioned several times in the historiography of the Songhoy Empire, the roles and powers of these two figures in the prince’s entourage remain understudied. In this article, we therefore propose to analyse the functional characteristics of these two dignitaries of the Songhoy royal court within the perspective of their respective specificities and conformities, based on oral tradition and the Tarikhs of Timbuktu. In particular, we note the functions and skills that make them very distinct jobs, then the attributions they have in common, which could lead us to believe that they are identical professions.
