Cette réflexion est une contribution à l’historiographie du rôle humanitaire du Gabon, relevant du champ de la protection des réfugiés. Nourrie de l’approche libérale des relations internationales, elle se propose d’analyser l’évolution juridique, institutionnelle et politique de l’engagement du Gabon dans le domaine humanitaire. Dans cette perspective, elle soutient l’idée que cet engagement suit une trajectoire mouvante partant du balbutiement au renforcement du cadre normatif. Pour ce faire, elle s’appuie sur des sources officielles de la République gabonaise, des Nations Unies, d’autres organisations pertinentes et des sources secondaires, toutes soumises à la méthode historique. Il en résulte une interprétation nouvelle sur l’accueil du Gabon des milliers d’enfants biafrais en 1968 et sa gestion exemplaire du flux de réfugiés des années 1990 et 2000.

This contribution to the historiography of international humanitarianism in the field of refugee protection focuses on Gabon’s interest in this cause. Drawing on liberal approach to international relations, it analyses the legal, institutional and political development of Gabon’s commitment to humanitarian aid. To such perspective, she supports the idea that this commitment follows a moving trajectory, from the beginnings to the strengthening of the normative framework. To do this, it draws on official sources from the Gabonese Republic, the United Nations, other relevant organisations and secondary sources, all subjected to historical method. The result to the new interpretation of Gabon’s reception of thousands of Biafran children in 1968 and its exemplary management of refugees flow in the 1990s and 2000s.
